In my earliest days of creating I was merely a child; everything was so new and intriguing to me. The vibrancy of color, texture of the materials I was using, the pureness in my intentions of creating all of it was so new and refreshing to me. Without knowing it, I had found my calling as an artist. The way I viewed the world instantly changed while I was teaching myself, basic beading, sewing & hand weaving techniques. Little did I know that some of these techniques would pop back up later in my college years at the University of the Arts. My motivation to expand my talents and trades was a direct effect of not having access to any creative resources. I quickly realized if I wanted to expand my skillset that I would have to get books and teach myself. (This was before the internet and youtube tutorials.)  It was those initial moments in my creative career that constantly inspire my current everyday work.

I became more into 2D art and painting throughout high school after I had taken a few formal classes. I wanted to work outside of class paintings subjects that I wanted to paint so I started experimenting with different things in my home studio. It was at this point that I began creating paintings for myself as an expressive outlet and almost a form of therapy. I created paintings/ drawings for about 8 years throughout highschool and college without showing them to the public, only a few colleagues and friends had known about my passion for expressionist painting. I had always had been drawn to the Craft world and I was working on my degree in Fiber arts, so painting was not something I had felt confident about.

At this point in my artistic career, my bodies of work are concentrated into two mediums, jewelry making and painting. Currently, I have stepped outside my normal box and have been focusing more heavily on acrylic painting and away from indigenous craft techniques. I realized at that time I was limiting myself in the ways that I was using my tools and my process for creating compositions. From there I was able to break through the barriers I created for myself and begin to paint the work you are now seeing today.

The concepts I think about and play with in my work are perception and color. I like to show my abstract perception of the world with fantasy based landscapes using a very vibrant color palette. Nature has always played an important role in my life for finding peace of mind and I think that is why landscapes flow so naturally from me. My experiences in nature always has had this way of making me feel small but also making me feel like I am apart of something larger than myself. The feeling of overwhelmingness is something I try to convey a lot through my work because I feel like it’s relatable to many, and it’s something I am dealing with on a regular basis in both a positive and negative aspect.  My strong use of color goes back to my roots of art making and being drawn to neon and bright colors. I like to study different color palettes and I love seeing which color palettes viewers are naturally drawn to.
